Chienge, Zambia August 2, 2025
A spirit of joy and thanksgiving filled Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Chienge as the Catholic faithful gathered in large numbers for the ordination of two new priests: Fr. Danny Mutumpa and Fr. Pascal Nkandu SDB. The solemn liturgical celebration was presided over by His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Patrick Chisanga, OFM Conv, Bishop of Mansa Diocese.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the life of the Church, especially for the local community and the families of the newly ordained. In his homily, Bishop Chisanga emphasized the sacredness of the priestly vocation, urging the ordinands to live lives of service, humility, and deep faith.

“Today we celebrate a gift not only to the Church but to humanity. May your ministry be a reflection of God’s love, especially to the poor, the forgotten, and those searching for meaning,” said the bishop.

Fr. Danny Mutumpa hails from Mansa Diocese, while Fr. Pascal Nkandu is a member of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), an international congregation dedicated to the education and evangelization of youth. The presence of both diocesan and religious clergy at the ordination underscored the unity and diversity of vocations within the Church.

The faithful from different parishes, together with representatives of religious congregations, civic leaders, and youth groups, came to witness the sacred event. The liturgy was enriched by vibrant singing and traditional dances, expressing the deep cultural and spiritual roots of the Chienge community.

As the newly ordained priests were vested and anointed, a sense of mission and hope radiated throughout the congregation. Many described the ordination as a sign of God’s continued work in the Diocese and a call for more young people to respond generously to God’s invitation.

The celebration concluded with heartfelt speeches and a festive meal shared by all, symbolizing the unity of the Church and the joy of the occasion.
