MANSA DIOCESE OBSERVES ASH WEDNESDAY WITH A CALL TO PRAYER, FASTING AND ALMSGIVING

Mansa, Zambia – March 5, 2025

Catholics in Mansa Diocese joined millions of believers worldwide in observing Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season. The sacred Mass was led by Bishop Patrick Chisanga, OFM Conv., who encouraged the faithful to embrace fasting, prayer, and almsgiving with a spirit of hope and renewal.

During his homily, Bishop Chisanga reminded Christians that Lent is a time for spiritual discipline, urging them not to remain trapped in sin or despair but to trust in God’s mercy. “People should regard prayer as a way to stay disciplined in the constant pursuit of holiness through fasting,” he said.

He acknowledged that life’s distractions often challenge one’s commitment to faith but encouraged believers to remain steadfast in prayer. “Even in moments of distress or discouragement, always pray, knowing that God is always listening,” he added.

The highlight of the celebration was the imposition of ashes, a solemn ritual symbolizing repentance and humility. “The imposition of ashes reminds us that we came from dust and to dust we shall return,” Bishop Chisanga reflected, emphasizing the call to turn back to God.

As the Lenten season unfolds, the faithful of Mansa Diocese are encouraged to deepen their commitment to spiritual growth, acts of kindness, and a renewed relationship with God.

END.
